Oh Buoy Abodes: Bookshelf Decorating Tips

Decor-wise, our apartments have a lot in common, with nautical elements galore. Another similarity is that we each have giant bookshelves. While they are different shapes and styles, our methods for filling them are similar. We looked to our own homes for this post, and put together some of our decorating tips. 

Oh Buoy Abodes: New Couches

Amanda here. First off: PATS!! Mother Nature is celebrating the big win by dumping another foot of snow on Boston today. I'm not complaining...I am enjoying my third snow day in 2 weeks. Being snowed in is extra sweet today because our new couches were delivered this weekend. The room is still a work in progress (try to ignore the rug that's floating like an island in the center, and the beat up coffee table too) but I love how the cream sofas have brightened the space while still feeling extra cozy.

Oh Buoy Abodes - Turkey Before Tinsel

We'll admit it, once November 1st hits we are ready for Christmas time. While the tree might not go up for another month, we are definitely ramping up the holiday spirit. However, our favorite eating holiday does tend to get overshadowed by the excitement. In our homes, we tend to forego the turkey decorations and skip straight from Halloween pumpkins to Christmas. These photos and prints give a little inspiration to slow down at this time of year and be thankful.

Oh Buoy Abodes: Chairish

Nothing can spice up a room like a bold color. We love the idea of adding a statement chair in a bright hue, and picking pieces to complement it. This turquoise chair with navy piping from Chairish immediately caught our eye. We love the vintage, yet fun & modern vibe. We paired it with a colorful print, matched the rug to the piping, and brought in some white and crystal pieces to keep the other elements in the room crisp and simple.

Man Cave Makeover

Have you heard of Man Crates Gifts for Men? They have put a unique spin on traditional gift baskets, tailored to please the men in your life.  Guys can be hard to shop for, right? Whether they are sports fanatics, foodies, outdoor-lovers or gamers, there is a crate for them. We were so happy to find out about this site, especially with the holidays right around the corner. We know that our guys would love the Whiskey Cocktail Crate! 

When the team over at Man Crates reached out and asked us to put together some ideas for a spruced up man cave, we jumped at the opportunity. We kept these guys in mind, removed the smelly old couches and neon bar signs from the equation, and created a sleek and cozy space that we all can enjoy, with a nautical flair (because that's how we roll).

Oh Buoy Abode - Modern Farmhouse

Crate and Barrel currently has a collection of furniture called Modern Farmhouse, and we are digging it. We're ready to move out to the country, find an old farm house, and add our own modern touches to the old world charm. Who's with us??

Oh Buoy Abodes - In The Kid's Aisle

Are we too old to be shopping in the kids section?? Amanda has been searching for a new living room rug, preferably in navy and white for a nautical vibe, and has found some great selections from children's decor sites like Land of Nod and PB Kids. Definitely check them out if you are in the market...kids are so stylish these days (although car map rugs were much more fun), and these rugs tend to be a bit less expensive than the grown up versions!

So we don't really have entryways in our Brookline apartments, but we can still dream about those in our future homes. It's so important to have a welcoming feeling as a guest (or you!) first enters, as it sets the mood for the entire house.
